Beware of Door-to-Door Red Cross Impersonators

Updated: May 21, 2020

BBB is warning consumers about scammers who are impersonating American Red Cross volunteers offering door-to-door COVID-19 testing. While their intentions remain unknown, it’s important to be prepared and stay safe.

If someone comes to your door claiming to be from the American Red Cross, do not answer the door, and call police. It is unclear if the scammers intend to fraudulently charge victims for tests or rob their homes. The American Red Cross is not offering door-to-door testing at this time.

Consumers should also be wary of unsolicited emails claiming to be from the American Red Cross, especially emails that prompt you to click any links. This is a common phishing scam where you may be asked for donations, or to provide personal information. Visit the official American Red Cross website directly at for information about services and donations.

If you’ve fallen victim to this scam, report your experience to Visit for current information on scams pertaining to COVID-19.
