Medicaid Scams Targeting COVID-19 Concerns Reported
Updated: May 21, 2020
BBB is urging Medicaid beneficiaries to be wary of anyone requesting personal information or payment for the promise of COVID-19 tests. BBB has received information indicating that fraudulent calls, social media posts, and door-to-door visits have recently targeted Medicaid recipients.
Keep the following in mind if you receive any COVID-19-related solicitations asking for your Medicaid information:
Only a healthcare professional can approve COVID-19 testing. Be suspicious of any unexpected calls or visitors offering COVID-19 tests or supplies.
No cure is currently available for COVID-19. Ignore offers or advertisements for cures, remedies or treatments.
Be suspicious of unsolicited requests for your Medicard information. Contact your health provider to verify the legitimacy of the person requesting it.
Contact your physician or other trusted healthcare provider if COVID-19 testing is needed.
